DIA Blocked Tartarus

It has come to our attention that the Department of Internal Affairs has decided to block Tartarus on the basis of not conforming to censorship classifications.  I have sent in an appeal about this blocking and hopefully the block will be revoked.

The block page states that your IP address and location have been logged and provides a form to appeal the website block.  It also links to more information about the filter.

Clearly the Digital Child Exploitation Filtering System is either easily hacked by trolls or way out of scope and the Government is using it for censorship of material that isn’t directly related to protecting children from sexual abuse.  The filter goes against the principles of privacy, freedom and government transparency and severely disrupts the flow of traffic in New Zealand.

Tech Liberty NZ has some interesting information about the filter.

April Fools’: All the website appeals were sent to master5o1′s website and can be viewed here.
